branded promotional item

Promotional items have been around ever since I remember, but no one ever answers the questions of why you really need them. A Promo item is like a company business card, except you can wear or use it – making it WAY more interesting. I mean, do you know how many business cards get tossed out at events? A lot of paper goes down the drain because it offers no value to anyone.

Matching Promo Products To Events

Promotional Items, while inexpensive, should be matched very carefully to the event you are hosting or attending. You Should Ask:

  • What type of people will be at this event?
  • Why will they keep this promo item over others?
  • Will this promo product get them back to my booth or website?
  • Is the item wearable or usable at the event?

Asking questions like the above are key to succeeding at the promotional game. Can you imagine going to a sports game and getting a keychain? Not much value there. However, if you get a blanket or snuggie it may be useful to keep everyone warm.

If you have a booth at a fashion convention than a designer hat or sweatband would be something easy to give out. However, a blender is of no use (unless it is a health foods event). So you can see how matching certain products to your events audience can help.

Getting A ROI

Depending on how big your event is you’ll most likely to order a lot of product with your logo on it. You’re going to want to make sure that all the product that you buy goes to spreading the word about your organization or brand, and understandably you’ll want a return on investment. This is where the previous paragraph comes in to play.

t-shirt

A t-shirt, for the most part, is a giant waste of money – unless it is downright cool looking. The reason I am a t-shirt hater is mostly because it involves sizing, which is a nightmare for any director of promotions. I’m sure if you have ever been to a promo event that you loved getting that last extra large t shirt, when you’re size was a small (or vise versa). So, I recommend to get something that fits everyone and can easily put to use – something that people can be proud of as opposed to just another Tee.

What fits everyone? Size-able hats, bags, wristbands, bracelets, scarves, normal gloves, and plenty other products. Creativity is key as well when it comes to choosing a promotional item. Once you know your audience, everything comes together a lot easier.
